Hello
My name is Jaimee and this is House of Dance. I am an incredibly passionate dance teacher, choreographer and dancer based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. My love for dance has navigated me through my life and has led me to teach for almost a decade now. I would love to dance with you all, irrespective of any age or ability. In my classes I prioritise a safe exploration of dance and movement and strive to foster an environment in which we all feel comfortable to embrace our individuality, connect with each other and of course grow further in touch with ourselves. I believe dance is all about celebration and connection, having fun is at the heart of each class. I would love to haver a boogie with you all. Can't wait to see you at home :))
My Story
Growing up, I had always been enrolled in dance classes and of course, I loved it. It was when I was 8 though, that everything changed. I had a new dance teacher, a dance teacher who encouraged me and supported me, a dance teacher who made me feel valued and important, and that what I had to say was worth it. I then discovered I had a new home away from home. No matter what challenges life threw my way, this became my escape, and through her guidance, I grew in not only skill, but confidence and awareness of myself in the wide world around me. It was at this time that I first realised that creating this safe space for others was what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be the one to inspire joy, confidence, growth and love through the medium of dance. Throughout my schooling, I continued dancing and went on to study it at university. I completed my bachelor's in dance and music (VCA), learning mindful approaches to dance that I carry with me through all my credits. During this time, I continued teaching my regular dance classes but also began choreographing musicals. I have won numerous choreographic awards for fan favourites, including ‘Addams Family’, ‘School of Rock',’ and ‘Footloose’. As well as this, I also love bringing choreography to life in new musicals, debuting new musicals at the past two Melbourne Fringe Festivals. Outside of Theatrical choreography, I have taught at many studios including 'The Space Dance and Arts Centre’, before opening up House of Dance. Both me and my students have won multiple national titles, winning every year we have entered. My other credits include speaking about the future of dance and my choreographic process on ABC radio, and ‘The Dialogue’ Theatre Blog discussing “Jaimee White’s Choreography….[as] amongst the best [they’ve] seen”. Dedicating my life to movement, I aspire to bring passionate energy to every class I teach. Training in diverse styles, from Hip-Hop to Music Theatre to Jazz, I can offer a wide array of classes but all are infused with the celebration of individuality.
